What degree is being offered? Master of Science in International Affairs
How is this program better described? A multi-disciplinary graduate program offering  globally-oriented professionals the opportunity to acquire  an understanding of increasingly complex issues that transcend national boundaries, and to develop the critical managerial skills that are required to apply their knowledge to real world situations .
Who is this program directed to? Individuals holding at least a bachelor’s degree or similar interested in pursuing careers in government service, business, international institutions and non-governmental organizations.
What is the total cost of the program? The estimated total cost of the whole program is $13,042.
What is the cost per credit hour? $388.00.
What is the cost per semester for one course? The cost per semester is $1,356 (for a student taking 1 course, including Technology/Recreation fee & insurance).
What is the cost per semester for 2 courses? The estimated cost per semester is $2,520 (for a full time student taking 2 courses, including Technology/Recreation fee & insurance).
In addition to tuition, what additional costs and fees apply?
  • Application fee: $30.00.
  • FSU ID $20.00 (first semester only).
  • Technology/Recreation fee: $90 per semester.
  • Insurance: $6.00 per semester.
Is financing available? The MIA program qualifies for IFARHU loans.  Also, a tuition deferment program is available for $50 per semester.
Can I pay cash? No, we only accept payment by bank draft or check made to Florida State University Panama, credit card, bank transfer or ACH electronic payments.
Is there a dateline for applying? Yes. A dateline for each semester will be advised.
Can the MIA be completed entirely in Panama? Yes.
How long will it take to complete the program? The program is designed to be completed in approximately 24 months, studying a total of 3 semesters per year, 2 classes per semester.
When are classes held? Each class meets twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes, either on Mondays and Wednesdays, or on Tuesdays and Thursdays, after work hours.
What is the program curriculum? 32 semester hours at the 5000 level or above in the following areas of study:

  • Geography
  • Political Science
  • Religion
  • Philosophyu
  • Urban & Regional Planninge
  • Economics
Is a thesis required for graduation? A thesis is not required
Is an internship required for graduation? An internship is not required.
Is it possible to accumulate credit by serving internships? Students might accumulate up to 6 semester hours by serving supervised internships.
Are the professors American? The current professors are from the United States, the United Kingdom, Costa Rica Cuba and Panama.  This may vary
Can graduate students participate in FSU campus activities? Yes.  Graduate students are considered full time students of FSU and are welcomed to participate in campus activities.
What are the admission requirements?
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning, or a comparable degree from an international institution.
  • A GPA 3.0/4.0 on all work attempted while registered as an upper-division undergraduate student working towards a bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum GRE score of 1,000 (old system) taken in the last five (5) years (students might be admitted “conditionally” pending GRE)
  • Proof of command of a foreign language (in addition to English).
Are transfer credits posted on the records of other institutions acceptable in liu of original transcrips from those insititutions? No, only original official transcripts are acceptable. Transcripts are considered official when they bear an official seal and signature. FSU transcripts on file will be obtained by us.
What are the admission procedures?
  1. Submit a Paper Application for Admission (click here to download our “Graduate Admission Application Form”.  Also you may call 317-0367 or write to fsupanama@fsu.edu for further information).
  2. A Check, bank transfer or credit card charge for $ 30.00 in name of:  Florida State University – Panama.
  3. Official transcripts from each college and/or university attended.  Transcripts issued in a foreign language must be accompanied by an official English translation.  Applicants who have completed their Bachelor’s Degree at FSU are not required to submit official college transcripts.
  4. Copy of Bachelor’s Degree diploma.
  5. Official TOEFL or IELTS scores.  Citizens of countries where the official language is English are exempt from taking the TOEFL or IELTS, but must attach a copy of their passport to their application.  Citizens of countries where the official language is not English and whose bachelor’s degrees where issued by an institution in a non-English speaking country must present TOEFL or IELTS scores. Applicants who take the IBT need to send their scores directly to FSU (code 5203).
  6. Official GRE General Test scores.  Applicants who have taken the GRE at the time of their application must request their test scores to be sent directly to FSU (code 5219).  Applicants who have not taken the GRE at the time of their application can be admitted conditionally, but they must take the GRE during their first or second semester of enrollment.
  7. Submit a one-page, double-spaced statement on your career and educational goals.
  8. Two academic letters of recommendation.  Applicants currently or recently enrolled in college should submit letters of recommendation from faculty.

Is the GMAT a substitute for the GRE? The GMAT is NOT a substitute for the GRE.
