Summer 2013 Application Process

New applicants for Summer 2013 (May-August) should take into consideration the following important information and dates. The Summer 2013 semester at FSU Panama consists of two sessions: SESSION 1 (May 13th -August 2nd 12 weeks), SESSION 2 (May 27th – August 2nd 10 weeks). 
 
The application process is open now and will close on May 3rd. It is important to submit your application before that date in order to insure that it gets processed in a timely manner. Transient Students should take a look at the specific information for transients below.
 
The next TOEFL exam is offered on the following date: April 27th 
 
Math Placement and Orientation for New Students.
The Math Placement determines students’ placement in the area of math, and is mandatory before a student can take any math classes.
The New Student Orientation is also mandatory and provides new students with an overview of the university’s major policies, programs, registration process and other related issues.

Application and Supporting Documents
 
Applicants should submit the following:
 
  1. An application for admission and $30.00 application fee
  2. Official high school transcripts, grades 9th-12th. If the original transcripts are in a language other than English, then you should also provide their translation in English. A copy of the high school diploma Official College transcripts with their translation (if applicable). This requirement is for Transfer students ONLY.
  3. Official TOEFL or IELTS scores to prove English proficiency for international students. FSU Panama requires the following scores: 550 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (next testing date is April 27th ), 80 on the IBT (Internet-Based TOEFL) or 6.5 on the IELTS. Applicants with lower scores that these may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Dual citizens (Panama/U.S.) do not need to take the TOEFL exam but must bring a copy of their U.S. passport.
  4. SAT or ACT scores. Applicants who have already taken either of the two exams should submit their scores or request that those be sent directly to FSU through College Board (FSU SAT code is 5219 and ACT code is 0734). Applicants who have not taken the SAT or ACT are still allowed to register for classes, but they should plan on taking either of the two during their first or second semester of enrollment.
 
* Please note that letters of recommendation are not required and will not be used in the decision-making process.
 
Important Dates
Registration for New Students: May 7th – May 10th 
Classes begin:   
SESSION 1 (12 weeks) May 13th – August 2nd  
SESSION 2 (10 weeks) May 27th – August 2nd            
 
TRANSIENT STUDENTS (students who attend another college and would like to take classes at FSU Panama for one semester only)
 
Students from other colleges who would like to take classes in FSU Panama for the Summer 2013, should submit a Transient Student Application form along with unofficial transcripts from their parent institution, or a letter of good standing. Transient students should be in good standing with their institution, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Transients who have taken classes with us before will still need to send a transient application form and a copy of their updated college transcript. FSU Panama remodels multiple purpose court at City of Knowledge

Florida State University Panama has renovated a multi-purpose sports court in The City Of Knowledge near building 227. An investment of $8,000, was made and this amount was funded solely by FSU Panama as a contribution to The City of Knowledge Foundation in order to promote a healthy lifestyle. It can be used to play football, basketball, voleyball and several other sports and it is available free of charge to all FSU students and users of the City of Knowledge from Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

 
FSU-P Joins ADEUPA

altFSU-P is now a member of Panama’s National Collegiate Sports Association (ADEUPA), which oversees 12 college sports leagues at national level including soccer, indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, chess, ping-pong, swimming, track and field, karate, Judo and Tae Kwando. 

ADEUPA is a chapter member of the Central American and Caribbean College Sports Association (ODUCC), founded in 1970 and headquartered in San Juan de Puerto Rico, which organizes regional games between the national college teams of member countries every 4 years.  In 2010 ADEUPA sent a delegation of 75 college athletes from 12 Panamanian universities to compete in the XII Central American and Caribbean College Games, which took place in the Dominican Republic that year. 

Thanks to FSU-P’s membership in ADEUPA FSU students will now have the opportunity of wearing Garnet & Gold in Panama’s 1st. National University Games, which are scheduled to take place in September of 2012, and also are eligible to be picked for the national teams that will represent the country in the next ODUCC games, programed to take place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in 2013.  

FSU students interested in participating in our intramural or varsity sports teams are invited to register with Alejandra Terreros at the Student Affairs Office.

Instituto Pedagógico visits FSU

Instituto Pedagogico

On August 28th, students from the Instituto Pedagógico visited our FSU Panama facilities for a brief talk, a campus tour, and a mock Cambridge ESOL FCE Exam administered by our English Language Program. Thirteen  prospective students between the ages ofsixteen and eighteen learned about our institution, opportunities for studying abroad and the American university system  at a presentation given by Mr. Alonso de La Guardia, Vice Rector for University Relations at FSU Panama.

FSU renowed music professor Eva Amsler to perform in Panama

Eva Amsler

Panama will enjoy the magnificent sound of the talented flutist and FSU music professor Eva Amsler, who will be performing with Panama's National Symphonic Orchestra under the conduction of Israeli director Shalev Ad-El on August 23rd at the National Theater in a benefit concert for the Soy Capaz Foundation, which helps children with Autism and Asperger syndromes.
