| Carlos Ricardo Langoni holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering; both earned at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC) do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
His career with Florida State University began in 1987 as adjunct faculty of the former Florida State University Panama Canal Branch. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 1989 and promoted to Associate Professor in 1994. From 1997 until 2000 Dr. Langoni served as Assistant Director for Academic Affairs. In 2000 he was appointed Vice-rector, position he held until August 2003 when he became Interim Rector of FSU – Panama. On June 14, 2004, the Board of Directors of the Florida State University – Panama Foundation announced the appointment of Dr. Carlos Ricardo Langoni as Rector of FSU – Panama, with the responsibilities for leading the institution in the fulfillment of its mission of providing excellence in higher education in the Republic of Panama. Since then FSU Panama has become a truly international campus with students from more than fifteen different countries, including more than one hundred students from main campus that each year attend FSU Panama.

| A native of Greece, Alexandra Anyfanti holds a BA in English Language and Literature from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, and an MA in English Literature from the University of Warwick, UK. She moved to Panama in 1993 and began her affiliation with FSU Panama in January of 1994 as an adjunct instructor of English. She taught English and Composition as adjunct until 2001 when she was offered a full-time position in the area of English and Writing. Her involvement with campus life and activities on a voluntary basis prepared her to accept the position of Director of Student Affairs, a position that oversees the operation of the Student Affairs office, Academic Advising, Campus Life, and Student Rights and Responsibilities, a position she held for two years. After serving as interim Vice Rector for a year, she was offered and accepted the position of Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, a position she holds currently.

Dr. Barrera is a former Fulbright Scholar with a doctoral degree in Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics supported in part by the National Science Foundation and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Oak Ridge Associated Universities.

| Dr. Alexander Coles, Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Science. His current academic interest is centered in the topic of urban growth and risk. At FSU-Panama he is actively working in the advancement of two projects aimed at strengthening teaching and research in the areas of geography, urban issues, and environmental sciences: (1)The Geography Studio and (2) the Observatorio Urbano.

Dr. Raymond A. George received his Doctorate in Public Administration in 1984 from Nova University, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. He holds a Masters of Arts in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK, and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa.
Dr. George joined the Florida State University-Panama in 1998 as an Adjunct Professor and currently teaches Organizational Behavior and Criminology. In 2007 he was appointed Director of Student Affairs. His current responsibilities include supervising on campus housing, student counseling and orientation, academic advising, registration, and judicial actions.

Rocío joined FSU-Panama in the summer of 2011 teaching Public Speaking (SPC 2608).
She is an award-winning bilingual journalist with experience in speechwriting, newspaper reporting and copyediting as well as magazine production. She has a BA in Journalism from Texas A & M University (1997), an MA in Professional Writing from Falmouth University (2006), an MA in Literature from American University (2010), and a postgraduate degree in Higher Education from Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá (2012).
In addition to Public Speaking, Rocío also teaches writing classes at FSU-Panama.
Her approach to teaching is constructivist and her goal is to help young people believe in their creativity and instill in them a research ethic. Her research interests include 12th century France, fin-de-siècle literature and innovative teaching methodologies. |
| Dr. Mir N. Islam, after completing a Masters in Biochemistry & Nutrition from Dhaka University, studied for his MS & Ph.D. in Food Science at Louisiana State University with a fellowship from Ford Foundation. He taught 28 years at the University of Delaware (USA) and joined FSU-Panama in February, 2011 as an adjunct Professor of Nutrition. He is a world-renowned researcher and a professor in the field of Food science & Nutrition.

| Dr. Ronald Jenkins has been teaching courses in writing, literature, and film at FSU-Panama for ten years. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Florida State University (2004) and Masters degrees in English and Creative Writing from The University of Memphis (1998) and The University of Tennessee (1992). He earned his B.A. at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1989, with a major in English and a minor in Philosophy. Dr. Jenkins teaches full-time as Associate Professor of English at Allegany College of Maryland, in Cumberland, Maryland, U.S.A. During the summer semester, he teaches literature and humanities courses at FSU-Panama as a Visiting Professor. |
| Dr. Adolfo Leyva de Varona holds a PhD in Inter American Studies (1994) from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Miami, and a Masters in Latin American Studies, with a major in Economics, from the Center for Inter American Studies at the University of Florida. He is also a graduate of the Getulio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he obtained a Certificate in Inter American Trade and Export Promotion (1978) while on a Fellowship granted by the Organization of American States.

| Dr. Mirella Martinez is regular faculty at Florida State University – Panama in the Biological Sciences Department. She holds a Ph.D. earned at the Wildlife and Fisheries Management Department at Texas A&M University, an MSc in Agribusiness from Arizona State University and a B.Sc. in Biology with emphasis on aquatic ecosystems, fisheries-aquaculture and development from Arizona State University. She has served as Director of the Biological Sciences graduate programs under the Research and Graduate Studies Vice-rectorship at Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua, Panama; also served as Chief of Party for the EPIQ/IRG project Institutional Support for the Sustainable Environmental Management of the Panama Canal Watershed; and, as independent environmental and development consultant.

Benjamin Murphy read Philosophy and Theology at the University of Oxford, receiving his BA in 1993. He remained at Oxford as a postgraduate, studying Philosophical Theology under the supervision of Richard Swinburne, and he completed his D.Phil. in 2000. Dr. Murphy now teaches Philosophy and Religious Studies at FSU-Panama. His research covers the role of logic in theological discourse, and the scientific understanding of religion.

| Carla Pousa Caride is a practicing Panamanian lawyer that holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Comparative Law and a Ph.D in International Studies, both from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, Florida). She also holds a degree in Higher Education, and is licensed to serve as a mediator.
Her main areas of interest include international law, transnational threats and national security policies. She participated in the United Nations Fellowship Program on Disarmament and she has gained considerable experience working as a governmental official at the Panamanian Public Security and National Defense Council.

Barry J. Seldon is an industrial organization (IO) economist with interests that extend to related fields. His research includes the economics of advertising and advertising policies; the welfare effects of research and development; antitrust economics; interest groups economics; public opinion on environmental spending; the distributional effects of taxation policies; and the economics of transfer pricing. He is co-author of The Economic Benefits of Forestry Research and has published over 50 articles in leading journals in economics and political science as well as in ten edited volumes.

Dr. van der Laat holds a BA from Florida State University with a double major in psychology and music. She also holds MS and PhD degrees in clinical psychology from Purdue University. Dr. van der Laat’s research interests include personality assessment in individuals with psychopathology and the interaction between diverse forms of psychopathology and information processing, particularly the development of source-monitoring biases. Dr. van der Laat has been teaching at FSU Panama since 2006, joining the full-time faculty in 2010 as an assistant professor. Since 2010 she has been working on developing a Wellness Office devoted to the promotion of the physical and psychological wellbeing among members of the FSU Panamá community. |
| Dr. Vasquez is the first Panamanian recipient of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (Monbukagakusho) of Japan’s scholarship for conducting research and doctoral studies in Japan. He did his graduate studies at the University of Hiroshima earning the doctor of engineering degree in Industrial Chemistry focused on environmental and physiological applications of electrochemistry, under the supervision of Prof. Kazuo Sasaki and a Master´s degree in Medicinal Analytical Chemistry working with Prof. Hideo Imai. He holds a bachelor degree in Chemical Physics from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, Spain.
