It currently has over 40,000 students from more than 100 countries studying at its main campus in Tallahassee, the state capital, and at campuses in the cities of London, England; Valencia, Spain; Florence, Italy and Panama, Republic of Panama.

FSU is classified as a “Very High Research Activity” university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and its research programs include world-renowned laboratories such as the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, financed partially by the National Academy of Sciences and operated in conjunction with the Los Alamos Research Laboratory; and the Center for Advanced Power Systems, supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, both of which are at the forefront of scientific research.
